Una visitante discreta entre las hojas: la guatusa 🌿A quiet visitor among the leaves: the agouti 🌿
Hoy, mientras observábamos el suelo del bosque en La Ceiba EcoAdventures, apareció una de nuestras vecinas más discretas: la guatusa (Dasyprocta punctata).
Se movía con calma entre las hojas secas, buscando frutos y semillas. Aunque suele pasar casi desapercibida, cumple una función importante en el bosque: algunas semillas que transporta o guarda quedan olvidadas y pueden llegar a germinar, ayudando así a renovar la vegetación.
La guatusa es rápida, prudente y muy atenta a todo lo que ocurre a su alrededor. Por eso, la mejor manera de observarla es guardar silencio, mantener la distancia y dejarla continuar con su recorrido.
En La Ceiba, no siempre hay que mirar hacia las copas de los árboles para encontrar vida silvestre. A veces, la sorpresa está caminando tranquilamente entre las hojas. 💚Today, while watching the forest floor at La Ceiba EcoAdventures, one of our quietest neighbors appeared: the Central American agouti (Dasyprocta punctata).
It moved calmly through the dry leaves, searching for fruit and seeds. Although it often goes unnoticed, it plays an important role in the forest: some of the seeds it carries or stores are forgotten and may eventually germinate, helping new vegetation grow.
The agouti is fast, cautious and constantly alert to everything around it. The best way to watch one is to remain quiet, keep a respectful distance and let it continue on its way.
At La Ceiba, you do not always need to look up into the treetops to find wildlife. Sometimes the surprise is walking quietly among the leaves. 💚
